Re: Thoughts for Sydney

Hi,

I am going to be honest. I haven't read posts in this thread. It is too much. I just want to copy and paste what has been unsettling for me. I would be curious to know if anyone else in these forums has had thoughts on what I raise.

From what I see the act of serial killing is being attributed to so-called 'psychosis, so-called 'schizophrenia'. And the media is presenting this story that "treatment" is only "medication". And blame is being put on Joel Cauchi and others for him being "unmedicated" - making a false accusation that because he came off his medication he caused harm to others and himself.

The biggest failing I see in the media and inquest ( and I am not inside so really know nothing) is that they are not telling the truth about the inadequate training knowledge and expertise of clinicians to support people to safely taper off their medication. Then because they do not report on this. They also don't report on the withdrawal symptoms that are to be expected when coming off medication. And how severe and dangerous these symptoms can be if tapered off unsafely/too quickly.

As I said, I have no idea if Joel was tapered off correctly. I do know, most clinicians don't know how to support people to taper off safely. So there is a likelihood - he experienced withdrawal symptoms - I am not even sure if you can avoid them.

Media says he was slowly taken of (word I cannot name in this forum), but is not so clear on the (other med I cannot name), The Guardian report made it sound like he was taken off (the second med I cannot name) just like that?!?!

And of course NO ONE mention's  Akathisia: https://akathisiaalliance.org/

-directly linked to homicide and suicide and directly linked with coming off psychotropics.
What has seriously unsettled me is that, Joel Cauchi had " a funny gait" which the community of peers suffering from Akathisia have well documented. 🙁

What is dangerous is the results from the media/inquest not acknowledging any of this.

I can see MORE people forcibly, or voluntarily put on psychotropics. Clinicians continueing to not have accountability in supporting people to get off meds safely - and then MORE Akathisia which equals MORE homocide - MORE suicide.

And all the while spreading a lie that lets everyone continue profiting from this. REALLY GROSS.

GASLIGHTING -"withdrawal symptoms ARE relapse". When the reality is - unsafe tapering can bring on MORE SEVERE symptoms of psychosis than prior to starting medication. As found in this report:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8450618/

People living with any mental health diagnosis related to 'psychosis'  will face more stigma and discrimination. People living with a 'schizophrenia' diagnosis will face more stigma and discrimination.

Hey there moosane. Thanks for sharing. This is certianly something to consider and that we need to recognise that everyone is different. There is no magic formula for anyone's recovery.
