Re: Welcome To The Conversation

Good evening all

Cool idea for a thread

Starred to read Camus

Myth of Sisyphus

What do people think of it ?

Re: Welcome To The Conversation

Yeah I was reading about pyrotheology @Appleblossom @TAB

Peter Rollins.

Its a bit of a w*nk but I like the idea it is trying to replicate - more inclusive version of Christianity. Not the exclusively strict version.

Re: Welcome To The Conversation

..its a common phrase in academia @MDT  now adopted by the media. as is Sisyphusarbeit eg in German.  guess he did something wrong to be made to try roll ball up hill or world forever

Re: Welcome To The Conversation

@MDT its big one .. being on the hamster wheel ... patterns of repetition.... and yeah ... you know I love rocks ...

@StanD Hope you are still going well ...

Re: Welcome To The Conversation

Like great works, deep feelings always mean more than they are conscious of saying. The regularity of an
impulse or a repulsion in a soul is encountered again in habits of doing or thinking, is reproduced in
consequences of which the soul itself knows nothing. Great feelings take with them their own universe,
splendid or abject. They light up with their passion an exclusive world in which they recognize their climate.
There is a universe of jealousy, of ambition, of selfishness, or of generosity. A universe—in other words, a
metaphysic and an attitude of mind. What is true of already specialized feelings will be even more so of
emotions basically as indeterminate, simultaneously as v

Re: Welcome To The Conversation

Oh wow @MDT thankyou for sharing this. It's very beautiful, - it had deep relevance & none. I am in a state of panic.

I know that maybe these things are most relevant when they seem meaningless.

Re: Welcome To The Conversation

Hi @StanD

Hope you are ok. Just wanted to check in as you mentioned you're in a state of panic. Can you let us know you're ok?

Warme regards

Hanami

Re: Welcome To The Conversation

Thankyou @hanami I am ok. I didn't mean it the way I wrote it. I understand your concern & appreciate you looking out for me.

It's a beautiful quote @hanami @MDT I read it to my friend. I wish I knew what the ending was! The way words can explain the mystery we all feel. It is nourishment. There is much I have missed out on in terms of great art artists,  @Appleblossom , (melancholia) writers. I love when people share on here. I could never learn all the things I want to & these types of sharing are real gifts to me.

Re: Welcome To The Conversation

@MDT I have a LOT of mixed up feelings about Camus' Myth of S ... I found it after my brother died in his workshop .... it meant something to him too ... wont say more than that.  I did not mean to be flippant about it.  Trying to distance myself from the pain and the complexity,  Still really glad you brought it up and posted a quote.

@StanD Glad you liked the Melancholia ... I must have posted it to you ...

Words and pictures and numbers ... different parts of the brain ...

Words .. are an important part of how we as a species ... H. Sapiens... think ... but there are other processes.

I bought this book ... when I finally had spare cash ... to buy non essentials ...

Re: Welcome To The Conversation

Everyone has their reasons @Appleblossom

No sweat. My sympathies and empathy your way for what you experienced when you lost your brother.

I think all authors have their limits. It's the beauty of philosophy that there are many authors. I think Camus' notion of rolling the boulder up the hill as a condemnation is a bit cynical/dark. I don't think it has any room for the mystical or the beautiful.

Seems to be the case that sticking it to the gods (as Camus campaigns for) is an unhealthy way to deal with the reality of life.
There is good. We need to find it.

Reminds me of other existentialists.
